South Sea and Tahitian strands from the Assael Collection, many of them matched over years and several in sizes that are hard to find today. Each one is listed with its own measured size range, and there is one of each. Choose a pearl type below.
Choosing an Assael strand
Four things decide how a strand looks on you and what it costs.
Pearl type
White South Sea is the largest and most classic. Golden South Sea comes from the gold-lipped oyster, in shades from champagne to deep gold. Tahitian runs from silver through peacock to aubergine. Each has a different presence, and none is better than the others.
Size
Most of these run from about 10 to 16 mm, and several pass 18 mm. Every one lists its measured range rather than a rounded category. Above 16 mm, round pearls matched into a full strand are rare at any price.
Shape
Round is the rarest and prices accordingly. Baroque and keshi strands run larger for the money and have real character. At this size a baroque strand is a serious piece of jewelry, not a compromise.
Length
Most sit between 16 and 19 inches. The long strands, 30 inches and more, can be worn full length or doubled, which makes them two necklaces in one.
Before you buy
Why is every size range different?
Because every strand is different. These were matched one at a time, so we measure the actual strand and list that range rather than rounding it into a category. A strand listed at 15.0 to 18.5 mm is that strand.
Will a strand come back once it sells?
No. There is one of each, and many took years of matching to assemble. Pearls in these sizes are increasingly hard to source, so a strand that sells can't simply be made again.
Can I see the exact strand first?
Yes, and at this level we'd rather you did. Ask and we'll send more photos or a short video of the actual strand, or put it on camera for you on a private virtual appointment. No charge and no obligation to buy.
Can the length be changed?
Often, yes. Tell us the length you want and we'll tell you what the strand allows before anything is done. Some of the long strands are already built to be worn doubled.
How are these shipped?
Every order ships fully insured. For safety and insurance, shipments valued over $100,000 travel only by Malca-Amit or Brinks, with a scheduled delivery and an adult signature. We'll coordinate the arrival with you.
