Hanadama Pearl Sets

A hanadama set is certified together, so the strand and the earrings belong to each other rather than merely sharing a grade. The pearls are drawn together and matched before anything is strung or set, and the set ships with its uniquely numbered laboratory report. Choose a size below, and ask us to photograph the exact pearls laid out together.

Choosing a hanadama set

Four things decide what you get and what it costs.

Size

Sets run 7.0 to 9.5 mm. 7.0 to 7.5 mm is the classic gift and the size most brides wear. 8.5 mm and up is the set people buy once and keep for forty years.

What is included

Most sets pair a strand with matched stud earrings, and some add a bracelet. The product page lists exactly what comes in the box before you order.

The certificate

The set is tested and certified together, and one numbered report covers pearls that were chosen to belong to each other. GIA sets are one of a kind and listed by their exact measured size.

Lengths and clasp

On our knotted to order sets the necklace length and the clasp are chosen on the product page. Nothing is strung until you order it.

Before you buy

Are the pieces actually matched to each other?

Yes, and this is the part most people assume happens everywhere. It does not. A set sold as a set is usually separate pieces of the same stated grade pulled from stock. Ours are drawn together from hanadama grade pearls, matched to each other for luster, overtone and surface, and then certified together, which is why they agree when worn rather than merely sharing a letter grade.

What does certified together mean?

The pearls for the whole set are tested together and come back under one numbered report. A set assembled later from separately certified pieces can match on paper and still disagree on the neck. These cannot, because the pearls were chosen against each other before the laboratory ever saw them.

Can I buy part of a set now and add to it later?

You can, and we would rather you did that than buy something that does not fit the plan. Tell us what you already own, or let us look up your order if you bought it from us, and we will match the next piece as closely as we can. It will not be identical to matching everything in one go, since the pearls will come from a different selection, but it is a great deal closer than buying from somewhere else and hoping.

Can I change the lengths or the clasp?

Yes, on the knotted to order sets. Necklace length and clasp are chosen on the product page, and nothing is strung until you order it. The one of a kind GIA sets are finished pieces, so ask us first and we will tell you what is possible.

Can I see the exact pearls before the set ships?

Ask us and we will photograph them for you, laid out together so you can see how the pieces sit against each other. Request photographs or a short video on any product page, at no cost and with no obligation to buy.

Still deciding?

Hanadama is the category where the difference between two certified pieces is hardest to see in a photograph and easiest to see side by side. A specialist will put several on camera for you. Most appointments run about twenty minutes.
