13.0–16.0 mm round white South Sea pearl and diamond necklace
27 round white South Sea pearls · silver-rose overtone · 30.0 momme · approx. 16.75 inches · platinum and 18K white gold diamond ball clasp (64 diamonds, 4.51 ctw)
One of the finest white South Sea strands in the world, and among the most distinctive. Twenty-seven perfectly round pearls measuring 13.0 to 16.0 mm, carrying an intense silver-rose overtone, an unusual and highly prized quality, over thick nacre and deep, even luster. Round whites reaching 16 mm are rare on their own, and to find them with an overtone this pronounced and this consistent across a full strand is rarer still.
This is exactly what separates the great strands at this level. Size and roundness are the foundation, but the overtone, that silver-rose color living beneath the surface, and the luster carrying it are what give a strand its identity. They are also what no photograph fully conveys. Each pearl here was chosen and matched for that overtone and that glow, the kind of selection Assael was known for.
Finished at approximately 16.75 inches with a substantial platinum and 18K white gold clasp set with 64 natural diamonds totaling 4.51 carats.
An overtone like this is best seen in person, where the color and luster come alive, so we'd be glad to arrange a private viewing, at our Los Angeles vault or by virtual appointment, and to show it alongside others in the collection.
A museum-caliber strand from the Assael Collection, held in our Los Angeles vault. Once it sells, it will not be available again.
