What AAA means on this pendant

Our grades consider luster, shape, surface and matching together, and luster is what they turn on. For surface we describe what the piece actually looks like rather than quoting a clean percentage. At these sizes a piece will almost always carry some marking, and a number cannot tell you whether that marking matters.

  • ALow to medium luster, noticeable variation from the stated shape, and marking readily visible across the piece.
  • AA+Medium to high luster with some variation in shape. More marking, sometimes accepted for the beauty of the piece as a whole.
  • AA+/AAAVery high luster, closely conforming to its stated shape. Most pearls very clean, with a few carrying more. The combined grade describes variation in surface, not mixed luster or an inconsistently matched strand.
  • AAAThis piece. Very high luster, closely conforming to its stated shape, clean overall with any marking minor enough not to draw the eye.

There’s something Romantic about the simple combination of a perfect, gem-quality golden South Sea pearl and a single fine diamond. This elegant design is a customer favorite, and one of the most popular we offer.

The pendant is hand-made in our Los Angeles studio to our own exacting specifications We choose a gem-quality 11.0-12.0 mm golden pearl, hand-drill and attach it securely to the setting so it dangles effortlessly beneath a single sparkling diamond.

Golden South Sea pearls are among the rarest and most sought-after pearls in the world. They are also exceedingly difficult to produce, growing in only a few remote locations throughout South East Asia. The golden pearl set in this pendant was grown in the warm, tropical waters off the coast of Palawan in the Philippines.
