Next week, we will be traveling to Guaymas, Mexico to visit one of our favorite pearl farms in the world!
In fact, this was the first pearl farm Hisano and I ever visited together, more than 15 years ago.
Perlas del Mar de Cortez has the distinction of being the smallest commercial saltwater pearl farm in the world. We felt like it was the perfect complement to our Lake Kasumigaura livestream event from April, where we visited the smallest commercial freshwater pearl farm in the world.
The farm sits in a small bay called Bacochibampo and has one of the most unusual origin stories in pearl farming. It was founded by a group of university students at Tec de Monterrey. Over time, the campus closed, the professors all moved out, and the students stayed behind! What started as an school project turned into one of the most unique pearl farms in the world.
Two years ago we hosted a livestream at the farm, and we are heading back for a second visit. We are going to be joined by all three of the original farmers, Douglas, Enrique and Manuel.
We have been promised a special surprise too. Not only will be showing some of Hisano's and the farmers' favorite pearls, but we'll be treated to a special private collection that has never been publicly presented.
Join us live from Guaymas, Mexico on Saturday and Sunday, June 13 and 14 at 4:00 PM Pacific (7:00 PM Eastern).
