For nearly twenty years, September has meant one thing for us: the Hong Kong Jewelry Show. It’s the biggest show of the year, and for the past two seasons we’ve brought you along through livestreams right from the heart of Hong Kong.
This year, everything has changed. New tariffs now treat Hong Kong the same as China, adding more than 30% in costs to anything we’d bring back. That would drive prices up dramatically, which makes no sense for us or for you. So, instead of heading to Hong Kong next week, we’ll attend the Japan Pearl Fair in Kobe this November—Japan’s answer to the tariff situation.
We know many of you look forward to our Hong Kong livestreams, so we planned something special for next week.
If you joined our exotic akoya livestreams in Spring 2024, you’ll remember the extraordinary natural-color strands Hisano featured ... baroques, drops, sairin certified strands, exotic blues and more. They came from one very special Kobe dealer who focuses only on the rare and unusual. He works with an exclusive global client list and until now, has never discounted his pearls.
Earlier this year, he sent a collection of pearls to the U.S. for an event that never happened. Then the tariffs went into effect, and the pearls stayed here.
He asked us to highlight these pearls during the holiday season, and to sweeten the deal, he offered them to us at a discount. We gladly accepted. These spectacular, exotic pearls are now tariff-free and on sale. It's a Christmas miracle!
Hisano has carefully chosen pieces from this collection for two livestreams. The first will be Wednesday, September 17 at 3 pm Pacific. Virtual appointments to view these pearls up close will open the following day, Thursday the 18th.
