Pink Pearls

Natural pink pearls, not dyed. Pink is a freshwater color and almost everything on this page is freshwater, most of it our Freshadama grade. The color is the pearl's own and it runs from a pale blush through to a deeper peach. Filter by piece, grade and size below.

Choosing a pink pearl

Four things decide what you get and what it costs.

Where pink comes from

The freshwater mussel produces pink, peach and lavender as body colors, which no saltwater pearl does. When you see a pink akoya what you are usually seeing is a rose overtone lying over a white body color. The pink on this page goes all the way through.

Pink or peach

The same range runs from a cool blush to a warm peach, and most of our pink is tagged pink to peach because it genuinely sits between the two. Cooler pink works with white gold and platinum. Warmer peach is the better partner for yellow and rose gold.

Freshadama

Our own top grade for freshwater, and most of the pink on this page carries it. Freshadama pearls are almost perfectly round with very high luster. It is our grade rather than an industry one, which is exactly why we publish what it means.

Size and price

Pink freshwater runs from about 6 mm to 11 mm and above. Because freshwater is nacre nearly all the way through, a large pink pearl costs a fraction of what the same size would cost in any saltwater pearl. This is the best value on the site for a large colored pearl.

Before you buy

Is the pink dyed?

No. Everything on this page is the pearl's own color, grown that way by the mussel. Dyed pink pearls exist in the trade and are usually obvious once you know what to look for, because the color pools in the drill hole and looks the same on every pearl in the strand. Natural pink varies pearl to pearl, which is part of why matching a strand takes so long.

What is the difference between pink and peach?

Temperature, not a hard line. Pink is cooler and reads closer to blush. Peach is warmer and has more orange in it. Most of our pearls sit somewhere between, which is why the tag reads pink to peach. If you want one end of that range specifically, tell us and we will pick to it.

Will the color fade?

Natural body color does not fade the way a dye does. What damages any pearl is perfume, hairspray, lotion and sweat, which dry out the nacre and dull the luster over years. Put them on last, wipe them with a soft damp cloth, and never use an ultrasonic cleaner.

Does pink suit everyone?

It is the most forgiving of the colored pearls. A warm peach flatters most skin tones, and pink is the usual recommendation when someone wants color but does not want a pearl that announces itself. If you are buying a gift and cannot ask, pink is a safer choice than lavender.

Can you match earrings or a bracelet to a pink strand?

We already do, and on colored freshwater it matters more than anywhere. If you order pieces together we match the pearls to each other before anything is strung or set, free and without being asked. Matching pink across two orders months apart is close to impossible, because we are matching a natural color rather than a specification.
