What AAA means on this pair

Our grades consider luster, shape, surface and matching together, and luster is what they turn on. For surface we describe what the piece actually looks like rather than quoting a clean percentage. At these sizes a piece will almost always carry some marking, and a number cannot tell you whether that marking matters.

  • ALow to medium luster, noticeable variation from the stated shape, and marking readily visible across the piece.
  • AA+Medium to high luster with some variation in shape. More marking, sometimes accepted for the beauty of the piece as a whole.
  • AA+/AAAVery high luster, closely conforming to its stated shape. Most pearls very clean, with a few carrying more. The combined grade describes variation in surface, not mixed luster or an inconsistently matched strand.
  • AAAThis piece. Very high luster, closely conforming to its stated shape, clean overall with any marking minor enough not to draw the eye.

The Diamond Vine earring design features 9.0-10.0 mm AAA White South Sea pearls dangling below an impressive 14-karat gold hoop setting with 3 sparkling diamonds on each ear. There are 6 diamonds with a total carat weight of 0.30 cttw.

Each pair of earrings is made in-house and is composed of solid 14 karat gold. We use an extra-fine diamond grade (VS1-G), which is normally reserved for solitaire diamond rings. It’s rare to see this diamond grade used as accent stones in jewelry.

Primarily grown in pristine, remote regions of the Northwestern Australia, white South Sea pearls come from a special type of pearl oyster known as the silver-lip. These large oysters produce the world’s largest and most valuable pearls of 100% natural color.
