Make It Personal
Up to three characters engraved on the clasp of a pearl necklace or bracelet. Initials, almost always. The engraving sits on a solid gold clasp, so it stays private while the piece is worn and it is there when you go looking for it. Choose the pearls first, then tell us the three characters.
What three characters can carry
The clasp face is small. Three characters is the limit, and it is enough for the things people actually want engraved.
Three initials
The classic monogram, and far and away the most common choice. First, middle and last. Traditionally the last initial sits in the center and slightly larger, but we will set it however you want it.
Two initials
Either the wearer's first and last, or two people. Two letters have more room on the clasp than three, so they sit a little larger and read more easily at arm's length.
A short word
Three letters is enough for MOM, JOY, or a nickname. It is a small thing that turns a strand into a specific gift rather than a general one.
The pearls come first
The engraving is on the clasp, so it changes nothing about the pearls and nothing about their price. Pick the strand or bracelet you actually want, then decide what goes on the back of it.
Before you buy
How many characters can I have?
Three. The clasp face is small, and past three characters the letters have to shrink to the point where the engraving stops reading as engraving. Three is where it still looks deliberate rather than crowded.
Will I see it before it is cut?
Yes. We send a proof and wait for you to approve it. Nothing gets engraved straight off a note in the order comments, because a misread letter or a transposed pair is not something anyone can undo afterward.
How long does it add?
Three to five days for the engraving itself, on top of the normal time to make the piece. If you are working to a date, tell us the date when you order and we will tell you honestly whether it is going to make it.
Can an engraved piece be returned?
No. Once a clasp carries someone's initials it cannot go back into stock, so engraved pieces are final sale. That is exactly why we send a proof first, and why we would rather answer your questions before you order than after. Everything else on the site follows our normal return policy.
What is the difference between the two clasps?
Shape, and how the engraving sits. The circle clasp gives you a round face, which suits a monogram set in a ring. The square clasp gives you a flat face with corners, which suits letters set in a line. Both are solid gold and both fasten the same way. Pick the one you like looking at.
Can you engrave a piece that is not on this page?
Often, yes. It comes down to the clasp the piece is built with, because not every clasp has a face worth engraving. Tell us which piece you are looking at and we will tell you whether it can be done and show you how it would sit.
Are these the same pearls as the rest of the site?
Yes. Mostly Freshadama freshwater, with akoya and Hanadama akoya as well. Nothing here is a lesser strand because it is personalized. The clasp is the only difference.
Want to talk it through first?
Our specialists will show you both clasps on camera and lay out your three characters so you can see how they sit before anything is cut.
